About UsOur Story
Protect. Prepare. Serve.
For over seven decades, our volunteer fire brigade has stood as the first line of defense for our community. Founded in 1952 by a group of dedicated neighbors, we have grown into a highly trained, well-equipped force of 48 active volunteers.
In 1955 as a volunteer station for the North Shore Fire Board, and over the decades it has grown into a modern station with both career and volunteer firefighters, serving the wider East Coast Bays area as part of Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ). 1955 — The East Coast Bays Fire Station was built at 19 Knights Road, Rothesay Bay, under the North Shore Fire Board. It was created specifically as a volunteer brigade, reflecting the community‑driven nature of the area at the time. As the East Coast Bays region expanded (Browns Bay, Rothesay Bay, Murrays Bay, Torbay), the brigade’s workload increased significantly.Over time, the station transitioned from a purely volunteer unit to a combined crew with both paid and volunteer firefighters, improving response capability. Our Role Within Fire and Emergency New ZealandThe brigade is now part of the Waitematā Fire Area under Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ).Its responsibilities include:Structural firefightingMedical co‑responseMotor vehicle accidentsCommunity fire safety education Support at major regional incidents
